Power Station Steam Vent Pipe Replacment
AIRA was engaged by MHPS to remove and reinstall a 94 metre high, 24 ton pipe on the outside of a NSW power station.
The works entailed the removal of cladding, NDT of the pipe structure, preparatory welding, rigging and finally the removal of the pipe in sections. Working in conjunction with the MHPS project managers and engineers, AIRA planned and executed the removal of the pipe with the assistance of a Boom Sherrin crane with fly jib extension.
Once the pipe had safely been removed, AIRA then carried out the make good off the supporting brackets in anticipation of the new pipe being delivered. Once on site the pipe was craned back into position piece by piece and rather than weld the pipe as one long continuous section, AIRA torqued the connection flanges together to the required torque settings.
Once all the installation works were completed, AIRA then made good welds, supporting sections and all pipe coatings.
The works were carried out by a team of rope access technicians that included, riggers, welders, oxy cutters and was overseen by our IRATA L3 instructors to ensure all works were done as safely as possible.
Rope access was the safest, quickest and most adaptable form of access available and the technical abilities, backed up by sound safety management procedures and documents, meant that AIRA was the only NSW company capable of carrying out this style of works.
