Experts in confined space

AIRA was asked by Arup Consulting to assist in a culvert inspection, on a disused mine site in the Ilaawarra district of south Sydney.

The works entailed planning and entry to the confined space, issuing entry and works permits, supplying confined space trained staff, standby and emergency retrieval planning.

Once inside the space, AIRA staff needed to take 15 core samples from the structural walls of the culvert, for structural analysis. No potable water, power or lighting was available onsite. Hence AIRA set up all necessary infrastructure to do the works, whilst being aware of the hazards this introduced.

Once all planning, hazard mitigation and permit considerations had been completed, the works were undertaken in a timely and safe manner.

AIRA delivered on time, without incident and to the complete satisfaction of the consulting engineers and site representatives.
